About vacancy

Position Summary

The Area Manager is a senior operating leader responsible for a region of eight or more branches, with accountability for safety performance, regional financial results, customer retention, and the capability of the branch management team. Branch Managers report to the Area Manager, making team development the central responsibility of the role. The Area Manager sustains a consistent cadence of monthly business reviews, field visits, and one-on-one coaching, maintaining enough presence in the branches to understand conditions firsthand. As the business expands through new branch openings and acquisitions, the Area Manager serves as the operating leader for those transitions within the region, bringing new locations onto company systems, standards, safety programs, and reporting.

Core Responsibilities

Regional Financial Performance

  • Own the regional P&L, including revenue, gross margin, labor productivity, fleet and equipment cost, and branch overhead.

  • Develop the regional budget in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, and deliver against it.

  • Identify branches, accounts, and service lines performing below expectation, and implement a specific plan for each.

  • Conduct monthly business reviews at every branch covering results, variances, root cause, corrective action, ownership, and timing.

  • Evaluate regional spending, capital requests, and added headcount against a clear return on investment.

Safety Leadership

  • Hold accountability for regional safety performance, including incident rate, severity, near-miss reporting, and workers' compensation cost.

  • Hold Branch Managers accountable for safety execution in the field rather than for documentation alone.

  • Conduct unannounced field safety audits and act on findings promptly.

  • Lead the response to serious incidents and implement corrective actions across every branch in the region.

Branch Manager Development

  • Coach and develop Branch Managers, with accountability for their performance, results, and professional growth.

  • Establish branch scorecards, clear expectations, and a consistent one-on-one and business review cadence.

  • Lead the selection, onboarding, and ramp of Branch Managers within the region.

  • Build and maintain a leadership bench, identifying high-potential technicians, crew leads, and supervisors for advancement.

Operating Consistency

  • Ensure every branch operates to the same standards, processes, systems, and reporting regardless of location or acquisition history.

  • Drive adoption of company systems and retire branch-specific workarounds and legacy processes.

  • Identify best practices within the region and establish them as the standard across all locations.

  • Partner with corporate functions to resolve root causes rather than allowing branches to work around them.

Customer Retention and Growth

  • Own regional customer retention and protection of the existing revenue base.

  • Maintain direct relationships with the region's largest, most strategic, and most at-risk accounts.

  • Partner with sales leadership on pipeline, bid strategy, and pricing discipline within the region.

  • Ensure new and expanded accounts are launched cleanly, staffed correctly, and executed to standard.

Acquisitions and New Branch Integration

  • Serve as the operational lead on acquisitions within the region, from diligence support through integration.

  • Transition acquired branches onto company systems, standards, safety programs, and reporting on a defined timeline.

  • Retain acquired leadership, technicians, and customers through the transition.

  • Lead new branch openings, including market entry, hiring, asset deployment, and first-year performance.

Performance Measures

  • Financial: Regional contribution to budget, gross margin by branch, direct labor as a percent of revenue.

  • Safety: Recordable incident rate, near-miss reporting, workers' compensation cost.

  • Customer: Regional retention and renewal, revenue base retained.

  • People: Branch Manager and technician turnover, open positions, bench depth by branch.

  • Integration: Acquired branches converted to company systems and standards on schedule.

What We Offer

  • Full P&L ownership of a meaningful portion of a growing national platform.

  • Direct partnership with the Chief Operating Officer and the executive team, with visibility to ownership.

  • The authority to make operating decisions within the region and the accountability that accompanies it.

  • A defined path toward broader divisional and executive operating leadership as the platform scales.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of multi-site operations leadership, including direct management of branch or site-level general managers.

  • P&L responsibility across multiple locations, ideally $15 million or more in managed revenue.

  • Demonstrated success improving the performance of an underperforming location.

  • Experience leading safety performance in a physical, high-risk field environment.

  • Strong financial literacy, including job costing, gross margin, overtime, and crew utilization.

  • A management approach grounded in scorecards and financial results rather than anecdotal reporting.

  • Demonstrated success standardizing operations across decentralized or acquired locations.

  • Ability to travel 50 to 75 percent within the assigned region.

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent operating experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial services, facilities services, building services, industrial services, or another distributed field business.

  • Experience in a private equity-backed or acquisition-driven platform, including hands-on integration work.

  • Experience opening new markets or greenfield locations.

  • Familiarity with field service management systems and reporting environments such as Power BI.

  • Experience managing high-risk work at height, including rope access, suspended scaffolding, and fall protection programs.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Work Environment and Travel

  • Travel of 50 to 75 percent within the assigned region, including overnight travel.

  • Regular presence in branches and on active job sites, including rooftops and elevated work areas.

  • Work performed in office, vehicle, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.

  • Must be able to meet fall protection and site safety requirements for job site access.

Core Values

  • Safety First, Always: Never compromise on safety for the team, customers, or the public.

  • Customer Centricity: Customers are at the center of every decision made.

  • Integrity: Doing what is right, including when no one is watching.

  • Teamwork: Supporting one another, holding one another accountable, and winning together.

  • Innovation: Adapting to change and continually seeking better ways to do the work.
