Position Title: Material Control & Inventory Manager (Project Site)

Position Summary

The Material Control & Inventory Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the site laydown yard, coordination of material deliveries, and maintenance of accurate inventory on a single data center construction project.

This role ensures the laydown yard is organized, space-efficient, and synchronized with the delivery schedule and construction sequence, with the goal of maintaining minimum necessary inventory in the smallest practical footprint while ensuring materials are available when needed for installation.

 

Scope of Responsibilities

  1. Laydown Yard Management
    • Establish, organize, and maintain the site laydown yard to support efficient material storage and flow.
    • Define and maintain clearly labeled zones for:
      • Immediate use materials

? Near-term installation

? Limited buffer storage

    • Continuously manage the yard to ensure:
      • Efficient use of space (no sprawl or uncontrolled storage)

? Ease of access and retrieval

? Minimal rehandling of materials

    • Maintain housekeeping, organization, and clear visibility of all stored materials.

 

  1. Delivery Schedule Coordination
    • Coordinate all material deliveries to align with the project schedule and short-term lookahead (2–6 weeks).
    • Schedule and control delivery timing to ensure materials arrive:
      • Only when needed (just-in-time)

? In alignment with available laydown space

    • Communicate with vendors, procurement, and subcontractors to:
      • Confirm delivery dates and times

? Enforce site delivery requirements (labeling, packaging, sequencing) ? Prevent early or unscheduled deliveries that create congestion or excess inventory.

 

  1. Receiving & Material Control
    • Oversee all material receiving activities, including:
      • Verification of quantities and materials against delivery documentation ? Visual inspection for damage
    • Ensure all materials are properly logged, labeled, and placed in designated locations within the yard.
    • Maintain control of all inbound materials from point of receipt through storage.

 

  1. Inventory Management & Accuracy
    • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all materials in the laydown yard.
    • Track material status including:
      • Received

? Stored

? Issued to field

    • Perform regular cycle counts and reconciliations to ensure inventory accuracy.
    • Ensure all material movements (receipts, relocations, issues) are recorded and traceable.

 

  1. Material Issuance & Field Support
    • Coordinate and control the release of materials to field crews. ? Ensure materials issued are:
      • Correct and complete

? Located and accessible without delay

    • Minimize excess materials being released to the field to avoid uncontrolled staging or loss.

 

  1. Yard-to-Workface Alignment
    • Align yard organization and material availability with construction sequence and work areas.
    • Stage materials in a way that supports efficient installation flow.
    • Adjust yard layout and priorities based on changing project needs and sequencing.

 

  1. Safeguarding & Material Protection
    • Ensure materials are stored and handled to prevent:
      • Damage

? Loss or theft

? Environmental exposure

    • Maintain secure storage practices for high-value or sensitive materials.

 

  1. Coordination & Communication ? Work closely with:

? Site superintendent and field teams

? Procurement and logistics teams

? Vendors and delivery drivers

    • Participate in short-term planning meetings to stay aligned with upcoming material needs.
    • Communicate constraints related to space, deliveries, or inventory levels.
